Just past the half way point

So half term has come and gone and we have started making our performance. We are just past the mid-point of the project. Year 6 thought this would be a good opportunity to reflect on the last few weeks and update you on a few of our activities and conclusions.

“A few weeks ago we met a dozen people who used to work and learn here at West Park Primary School. I personally found this exciting, each one told us a short memory and we listened to many of these stories. Afterwards Year 5 interviewed our visitors.” Hela

“A variety of refugees and asylum seekers from across the West Midlands came to share their stories with Year 5 and 6. Listening to their stories made us feel down-hearted and emotional; so we decided to make welcome cards for them.” Prusha

“Year 5 and 6 went to the archives, there were lots of old pictures of Wolverhampton. In school we met some refugees, it was really emotional; and it was good of them to share their stories with us.” Karan

“Listening to the stories of refugees made me feel really downhearted. I thought about people in countries with war happening, we all have things to do and play with, but places infected by war have people risking their lives, I felt really emotional because of this”

“In year 6 we have been learning about refuges and making our school into a school of sanctuary. This school has been here for 50 years now! A visitor named Mike Edwards was actually one of the first pupils at West Park School but at first he went to Red Cross Street School.” Denzel

“Terrific news about our project. We’ve been learning about refugees and we’ve decided we want this school to become a school of sanctuary. Additionally, we had a visitor called Mike Edwards who told us about Red Cross Street School and moving to West Park Primary when he was a child.” Menahil
